Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society. It has been observed annually in March in the U.S. since 1987. Equally, International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8, to recognize the economic, political and social achievement of women.

The theme of 2022 Women’s History Month is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.” It is a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic. Q & A with Nyima

How did you come to join Amergis?

I joined [Amergis] in October 2014 after being a stay-at-home mom for a couple of years. I have always been interested in the healthcare industry. From a very early age, I had aspirations of becoming a nurse and was even accepted into a Bachelor of Science in nursing program in New Jersey. Although the course of my career path had changed, it was important that whatever my occupation was, it had to be work that was meaningful and purposeful. I think that this is what intrigued me most about [Amergis], being a company founded with core values of caring, serving and enriching lives.

Can you talk about your career path with Amergis?

I started as a Reimbursement Specialist in the Homecare division and after nine months, I became a team lead for the Mid-Atlantic region. I then moved over to the West region before eventually settling down in my forever home with Staffing as an Operational Support Manager back in 2017.

What advice do you have for employees looking to take on a leadership position at Amergis?

Those who want to take on a leadership position should:

What advice can you give team members to help them be successful?

Learn and absorb as much as you possibly can. Ask good questions and know that it is okay to not always have the answers right away but be determined to find the best solution. Share your knowledge and resources with others around you. This ensures that we are all successful.

How do you unwind after a long day at work?

I love Scrabble, so playing Wordfued. Right now, I have a game going on with a total stranger. At the end of every game, we request rematches with one another. This has been going on for almost ten years.

How has diversity contributed to you reaching your career goals?

Diversity means having a space or environment where people are embraced and feel included. Also, it means understanding that our differences, whether it is race, gender, religion or economic status, should be valued as a commodity and ultimately make us better as a person. It has emboldened me to speak up for the voiceless, even when my voice trembles.
