Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – School Setting
Location: San Ysidro, CA
Start Date: ASAP (School resumes January 13)
Contract Length: Approx. 20 weeks (through end of school year – last day June 10)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Total Hours: 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: Up to $50/hour (local) or $2,260 weekly (travel package available)
Work Setting: In-Person
Position Overview
Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will provide occupational therapy services to students in a school setting. Responsibilities include delivering treatment interventions, assisting with standardized assessments, and completing required documentation in accordance with district and professional standards.
This position is a high-priority opportunity with the San Ysidro School District, one of Amergis’ largest and most successful school accounts.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct occupational therapy services to students in accordance with treatment plans
- Assist with standardized assessments and data collection
- Document services and student progress accurately and timely
- Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, school staff, and support teams
- Support students primarily in elementary grades (K–6)
- Manage a caseload of approximately 60–70 students
- Work across 2–3 school sites within the district
- Focus primarily on treatment delivery (IEP meeting attendance typically not required)
Minimum Requirements
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license/certification in California
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- One (1) year of COTA experience preferred
- Pediatric or school-based experience preferred
- Ability to comply with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Current CPR certification, if applicable
- Completion of TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray)
- Current health certificate, per state or contract requirements
- Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older

- Assigned through the SELPA, but working onsite in San Ysidro
- Bilingual skills helpful but not required
