Amergis Healthcare Staffing’s Diversity and Inclusion Board shines a spotlight on an employee’s story each month. (Check out some of our past Spotlights.) For February, we spoke with Rynell Parson, a Director of Business Operations for Amergis’s Austin, TX office.

How did you come to join Amergis?

I started my journey with [Amergis] in the fall of 2013. I was fresh out of college with no real workforce experience. A family member who worked with the Homecare division referred me. They thought my personality and skill set could make for a great healthcare Recruiter.

Can you talk about your career path with the company?

I worked my way up the ladder, starting my career in the San Antonio market, from Recruiter to Senior Recruiter. In 2016, I transitioned over to the Austin market to become a Business Development Manager (BDM). During my time as a BDM, I was able to split my business four times and create opportunities for these leaders:

What advice do you have for employees looking to get involved at Amergis in causes that matter to them or making a difference?

I believe that you have to speak up if the matter carries weight or if it’s important to your heart. This organization truly believes that everyone, regardless of your title or background, has a voice, and so being able to use it to install change or to enhance the [Amergis] experience can only better this organization. Overall, your voice matters, so don’t ever think otherwise.

How do you unwind after a long day at work?

Great question. Being a father of three kids under five years old, it can be a bit of a circus show at the Parson household. However, my kids are my world. My family is my joy; regardless of the day I have, good or bad, they greet me with the utmost joy. They truly are the driving force to why I do what I do.

Where might we find you on the weekend?

If I am not spending time with the family, I am usually trying to sneak a quick 18 holes in.

Reflecting on your time here at Amergis, what accomplishment are you most proud of, and why?

If I have to strip it down to one, it would probably be my legacy here within this organization. I take pride in watching members of my team be promoted. I believe I have five that are either in some sort of leadership role with this organization and are doing great things. Casey, Joy, Megan, Graceon, and Larry, I am truly proud of the leaders you are today.

This February, we celebrate Black History Month, which commemorates the significant events and achievements of the African-American population of the United States. Can you explain what this important time means to you?

Black excellence can’t be bottled in one month because it flourishes throughout the year. However, I commend our nation’s acknowledgment, as it is important to honor, reflect, and celebrate our ancestors. It’s amazing to see what our people are capable of accomplishing, no matter the difficulties, obstacles, or circumstances. For that, I am thankful to those who labored for the fruits we get to enjoy today. I constantly reflect on how far we have come as a culture, and I am proud to be a black man in this organization.
