At Amergis Healthcare Staffing, our team members are at the heart of everything we do. Each month, our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) board highlights the story of an Amergis employee who demonstrates our core values for healthcare professionals and their patients.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, which is happening April 21-27, we are spotlighting Annalee Bowers a Recruiter Lead with our Educational Staffing division in Tampa, Florida. The D&I team spoke with Annalee to learn about her career journey and her passion for volunteering.

National Volunteer Week Interview with Annalee

Tell us more about your role, what you do, and how you joined the company.

I have been with [Amergis] for two years as of April 2024! Made a connection while at the golf course one Saturday in March 2022 and was referred to the [Amergis] – Tampa office! I am currently in the role of Recruiter Lead – RC 1 with the Educational Services division. I actively help manage the nursing side of Hillsborough County Public Schools alongside my amazing BDM!

Share a recent volunteer experience that you had. Who did you volunteer with, what did you do, and how did it impact your community?

I recently volunteered with Suncoast Charities for Children at their 10th Annual Thunder “By The Bay” Sporting Clay Tournament. Worked with about 30+ people that morning down at Knights Trail in Sarasota, FL. Helped coordinate check-in for 300+ participants, monitored sales of tournament “swag”, and was also out on the courses monitoring the pace of 100+ teams. I additionally helped with the live auction of donated raffle items from vendors and sponsors.

Can you describe a specific moment or experience during your volunteer work that was particularly rewarding?

At this event, we had the incredible opportunity to volunteer alongside the most recent competitors and medalists from the Special Olympics held in Sarasota. They bring so much joy and happiness to those around them at these events, truly an inspiration to everyone actively involved in their community. Watching them pass the trophies around to the winning teams from the tournament while also wearing their medals from the Special Olympics was such a wholesome moment.

What skills or qualities do you feel you’ve developed through volunteering?

Volunteering teaches compassion, servant leadership, teamwork with new connections, and growing your professional network. Suncoast Charities for Children has such a passion for helping the Special Needs community in Sarasota and Bradenton. Each event they host (not to mention the weeks of preparation) shows how servant leadership and selflessness goes a long way with the families and businesses involved.

What message would you like to share with readers about the value of volunteerism?

Take the time to serve in your community! There is nothing more rewarding than using the time given to you so graciously by our company to help those in need local to you. You can gain so many useful skills and develop professionally with the connections and interactions you make during these events. Organize that supplies drive for the local schools in your area. Sign up for that early morning shift to drop off meals to local shelters. Make a difference in your local community!
