Spotlights
Spotlight: Angela Hagan
Amergis Healthcare Staffing’s Diversity and Inclusion Board shines a spotlight on an employee’s story each month. (Check out some of our past Spotlights.) For March, we connected with Angela Hagan, a Recruitment Operations Manager II for Amergis’s Tampa, FL office.
How did you come to join Amergis? Can you talk about your career path with the company?
I was referred to [Amergis] by my friend’s mom who was working for Nick Franklin at the time. I did a dual interview with both Chad Suarez and Nick Franklin, which was intense! In the end, Nick decided to take a chance on me and add me to his team. I started in March 2017 and the fun never stopped! It took me a little bit to get to where I thought I needed to be. I’m a person that needs to know everything and I think that slowed me down a bit. However, once I got the hang of it, there was no stopping me! In October 2017 I was promoted to Team Lead, February 2020 promoted to Recruitment Manager, March 2021 promoted to ROM, and March 2022 promoted to ROM II.
What advice do you have for employees looking to get involved at Amergis in causes that matter to them or making a difference?
I have been in healthcare now for 13 years. My purpose in this industry has always been to help others. That didn’t change when I joined [Amergis]. My advice to anyone wanting to join [Amergis] is; do not think of this job as a paycheck, think about the patients we are helping. Think about the impact we can make in providing a good nurse to an understaffed facility and the difference the nurse can make in that community.
How do you unwind after a long day at work?
My guilty pleasure is reality TV. It helps me turn my mind off and not think about all of the tasks I have to complete the next day.
Where might we find you on the weekend?
You can find me on the golf course with my husband or in my backyard at the pool.
What is something unique that most people do not know about you?
I don’t know if this is unique or not, but I have a 14 year old daughter. I had her when I was 22 and it changed my life in so many ways. I still say to this day, she saved my life.
Reflecting on your time here at Amergis, what accomplishment are you most proud of, and why?
I’m proud of all of my accomplishments since starting with [Amergis]. When I first came to [Amergis] there were no women in leadership. Once I saw the first woman be promoted, I knew I wanted to be the next, and I was! I am the only female ROM II in our division right now. I hope that I have paved the way for other aspiring female leaders in this company.
Based on your definition of diversity, how has diversity contributed to you reaching your career goals or achieving success in your current position?
One of the many things I love about [Amergis] is; they do not see color or gender. Everyone is given the same opportunity regardless of diversity. All you need is hard work and dedication.
This March, we celebrate International Women’s Month. Can you share your thoughts about this and how you celebrate it on the team? Is there a message you have for other women in the company?
I’m very proud to be a women and even more proud that we have come so far as a country, recognizing females in the workforce. I do not celebrate women’s month specifically, but my message would be, to all women in [Amergis] or anywhere, “Don’t be afraid to go for what you want!”
